Slain Turkish Armenian Journalist's Death Commemorated

The first anniversary of the murder of the Turkish Armenian journalist Hrant Dink was commemorated throughout Turkey with rallies on Jan. 19. Dink was a prominent voice in Turkey’s Armenian community and had been critical of the country’s denial of the Armenian “genocide” of the early 20th century. He was gunned down by a 17-year-old Turkish ultranationalist last year in Istanbul in front of the weekly Armenian-Turkish newspaper Agos, where he worked as editor. Nearly 100,000 people marched behind Dink’s coffin, chanting “We are all Armenian. We are all Hrant Dink” in a show of solidarity. The trial of his alleged murderers remains ongoing.
