Blogger and journalist, Haidar Mohammed al-Nuaimi, was arrested from his home by about 30 men on April 24, according to Reporters Without Borders. The Committee to Protect Journalists reported that he was dragged into the street and beaten.
Al-Nuaimi works for various media outlets, including Al-Wasat. His computer and cameras were also confiscated and his Facebook profile has been blocked.
Nada al-Wadi, another Al-Wasat journalist, was detained by authorities for 10 hours on April 20, according to Reporters Without Borders. And on April 28, Al-Wasat’s Amani al-Muskati was detained at the Bahrain International Airport, transferred to a Manama police station, and released a few hours later, according to CPJ.
Al-Wasat is Bahrain’s premier independent newspaper. It’s founder, Karim Fakhrawi, died in government custody on April 12. The government also announced it would file charges against three other Al-Wasat editors. has deported two staff members and accused the paper of news fabrication.
