Eleven journalists and netizens in Syria are currently detained by the government, according to Reporters Without Borders.
Among them are Syrian journalist Fayez Sara, arrested on April 11, and Algerian freelance reporter Khaled Sid Mohand, arrested on April 9.
“Threats and attacks on journalists have increased during the current unrest and foreign journalists, including those working for the Associated Press and Reuters news agencies, have been deported,” according to Reporters Without Borders. “The regime is preventing foreign and local journalists from covering demonstrations and some have been physically attacked.”
The others include blogger Wassim Hassan, Norwegian correspondent Mohamed Zaid Mistou, journalist Zaher Omareen, journalist Mohamed Dibo, blogger Ahmed Hadifa, Kurdish blogger Kamal Hussein Sheikou and finally, Akram Abu Safi and Sobhie Naeem Al-Assal.
The Committee to Protect Journalists reported that Mohammad Dibo has been released by Syrian authorities.
