Search for missing journalist continuesPosted Feb 16 2011
Vasyl Klymentyev went missing six months ago from the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. He was the chief editor and a contributor for the Novyy Styl newspaper.
The police have classified the case as premeditated murder, and journalists are afraid that the police will drop his case because a body has not been found.
Because of this fear, Ukrainian journalists are appealing to President Viktor Yanukovych for help to solve the mystery behind his disappearance.
Klymentyev’s second-in-command, Petro Matviyenko, told Radio Free Europe that the investigation into the disappearance has not moved forward in the past six months, despite the involvement of a special investigative group from Kyiv.
Klymentyev went missing on Aug. 11. Before his disappearance, Klymentyev was writing a story about the mansions of four top Ukraine officials, one of who was from Ukraine’s security service.
