CBS correspondent sexually assaulted in CairoPosted Feb 23 2011
Lara Logan and her team were in Tahrir Square after Hosni Mubarak resigned his presidency on Friday, Feb. 11. They were covering the celebration for 60 Minutes when “she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element,” according to the CBS website.
Logan was separated from the CBS crew, surrounded by a frenzied mob of 200 people, and “sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers,” according to the network.
She reconnected with the team, returned to their hotel and boarded the first flight the next morning. She was released from the hospital on Feb. 15, according to ABC News.
The New York Times reported that “colleagues have said it is unlikely the attackers can be identified.”
