Second journalist beaten to death in less than a weekPosted Oct 6 2010
Journalist Dickson Ssentongo, a news presenter for Prime Radio, a Seventh Day Adventist radio station in the southeastern region of Mukono, was beaten to death on September 13. Ssentengo, 29, was on his way to work when unidentified attackers struck him with metal bars, Reporters Without Borders reports.
Ssentongo’s murder occurred just three days after Ugandan TV reporter Paul Kiggundu was murdered by an angry mob in the southern town of Rakai on September 10.
The farmer who discovered Ssentongo’s body said that both his money and his mobile phone had not been taken. This discovery led local police to believe that the attack was politically motivated.
In addition to presenting the news on Prime Radio, Ssengendo was a member of the opposition Democratic Party, for which he was running for a seat on the district council.
