New Authorities ban four television stationsPosted May 3 2010
The Kyrgyz opposition that ousted President Kurmanbek Bakiyev April 7 criticized the former administration for its failure to respect basic freedoms. However, the new authorities with interim President Rosa Otunbayeva in charge seem to follow the same path, Reporters Without Borders reported.
Since the change of power, the authorities have banned four television stations – Osh TV, Mezon TV, ElTR and Keremet – in the second largest city also know as the capital of the south, Osh. Newspapers Itogi Nedeli, Osh Janirigi, Osh Sadoci and Ekho Osha have been restricted from publishing certain news without prior permission.
