May Chidiac recognized as 54th IPI World Press Freedom HeroPosted Apr 9 2010
Television Anchor May Chidiac, known for her independent reporting on Syrian influence on Lebanese politics, will be honored at the IPI World Congress in Vienna and Bratislava in September.
Chidiac also won the International Women’s Media Foundation Courage in Journalism Award in 2006 after a bomb exploded under her car in Sept. 2005, which severed Chidiac’s left hand and leg.
The assassination attempt was part of a series of violent crimes aimed at critics of Syria including Samir Kassir and Gebran Tueni, according to The Daily Star in Lebanon.
After undergoing treatment in Paris between Sept. 2005 and July 2006, Chidiac returned to her political talk show Bi Kol Jor’a despite the danger.
“Nothing will ever stop me from saying the truth and what should be said,” Chidiac told IPI.
