Kidnapped journalist releasedPosted Dec 17 2008
Belgian journalist Thomas Scheen was released Nov. 7 along with his Congolese interpreter, Charles Ntiricya, and his driver, Roger Bangue. The release follows their Nov. 4 kidnapping while reporting on the war in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Committee to Protect Journalists reports that pro-government Maï-Maï militiamen in Kiwanja abducted Scheen, a correspondent for the German Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, and the others, where Scheen was reporting on the village’s security plight.
