Online magazine victim of cyber attack

All content on the Web site for the online magazine Kalima was destroyed following an online attack Oct. 8.

Following confrontations with the Tunisian government that date back to 1999, the underground newspaper was transferred to an online format in 2004. The Web site was already blocked within the country and was being hosted abroad when the attack occurred.

Kalima editor-in-chief, Sihem Bensedrine, who has suffered multiple physical attacks at the hands of Tunisian police, told the Observatory for the Freedom of Press, Publication, and Creation in Tunisia that, “the only people who would benefit from an attack on a website that is already inaccessible to Internet users in Tunisia are the security services.”
