Daily English-language paper allowed to resumePosted Oct 25 2008
The National Press and Publications Council (NPCC) lifted its 27-day ban on the English-language daily paper The Citizen on Sept. 29. According to NPCC, The Citizen is now compliant with all their administrative obligations. The ban, implemented Sept. 2, began with a letter from the NPCC sent to the Sudan Tribune on Sept. 1 stating that the paper was closing for administrative reasons. According to Reporters Without Borders, this letter followed a run-in with security forces at the printing location of The Citizen. Security charged the scene, informing employees of The Citizen that its publication was prohibited.
